Kathryn Cowen and Natalya Shinn
During 2015, fellow painter and friend Natalya Shinn and I travelled to Hill End in the Central West of NSW for an artist residency hosted by the National Art School, Sydney. We stayed at Bryant’s Butchery and explored the town and surrounding landscape soaking up the history and environment to make drawings in preparation for our group exhibition at Hazelhurst Arts Centre. Beaufoy Merlin’s Holtermann Collection of photographs documenting the town during the gold rush were particularly inspiring.
